Decoding school fees in India: what you actually pay for
Tuition, transport, books, uniforms, and that mysterious "development fee". A no-fluff breakdown.
Fee structures in India can be confusing. Here's what each line item usually means.
Tuition fee: The base academic fee, usually quarterly or termly. Admission fee (one-time): Paid when you join. Non-refundable in most cases. Development fee: Funds school infrastructure (sports, labs, etc.). Capped by some state regulators. Transport, books, uniform: Almost always extra. Always ask for a separate list.
Tip: Always ask for the previous year's full annual outflow per student — not just the headline tuition figure.
